It can’t have metal parts in, on top or under the laptop section, including buckles, snaps, zippers or anything else made of metal. Bags which can be considered checkpoint friendly must also have no pockets either inside or outside of the laptop only section.

You must also use this kind of bag correctly. To get through security more easily, you’ll need to make sure you pack only the computer in the designated section. There are quite a few models on the market, so it’s easy to find one that will work. These bags can be a little costly – about eighty to a hundred dollars apiece, but this is competitive with many other types of laptop bag, and frequent travelers will find that the extra cost is definitely worth it. Owners of some existing laptop cases can upgrade their existing models with a new sleeve to make them checkpoint friendly.

If you’re someone who travels frequently by air, and you don’t like having to deal with the hassle of moving your laptop in and out of its case each time you go through security, you have another option. Just look for a laptop case or bag that has been designated as checkpoint friendly by the TSA, and you’ll find that the time you spend in the security line goes way down.

There are plenty of different options for checkpoint friendly bags and cases on the market, so there’s sure to be one that will work for your needs and your computer.
